Shiloh Farms Turkish Figs, Organic

SHILOH FARMS Organic Turkish Figs are a light-colored variety (Sarilop) grown and cultivated near the Aegean Sea specifically for drying purposes. Large, plump, and wonderfully sweet, our Turkish Figs are both a tasty treat and a nutritional powerhouse.

Figs are exceptionally high in both soluble and insoluble fiber; in fact, they provide more fiber than any other common fruit or vegetable. Dried figs also have one of the highest contents of polyphenols – substances thought to help reduce cancer risk. Among the fruit's other benefits: recognized high mineral and ferrous material content, an abundance of essential amino acids and vitamins, and significant amounts of calcium. They contain no fat, sodium, or cholesterol.

Turkey is the world’s leading producer of dried figs. Our Turkish Figs are of the original Smyna cultivar, a species which requires pollination for the fruit to set. Figs are not harvested until they have fully ripened and already begun to dry on the tree, generally from mid-August to mid-September. The fruit is then picked and spread under the hot Aegean sun to finish drying, before being placed in cold storage. SHILOH FARMS Turkish Figs are never treated with any additives or preservatives, but arrive to you in a fully natural, unsulphured state.

Suggestions:
1. Excellent on their own as a light snack.
2. Chopped figs are delicious in muffins, quick breads, and other baked goods.
3. Sub chopped figs in anywhere you would use raisins, cranberries, or any other dried fruit.
4. Stew chopped figs in a little water or fruit juice; use to top oatmeal, fruit compote, or ice cream, or mix in with yogurt.
5. Dice and add to your granolas and mueslis.
6. Chopped figs add sweetness and texture to grain pilafs or stuffing.
7. Combine with sauteed vegetables, such as carrots, winter squashes, or sweet potatoes.
8. Split figs and stuff with nuts, peanut butter, or goat cheese.

Storage: As this product contains no preservatives, sugaring is possible. This is a natural process in which sugar crystals form on the outside of the fruit and can be accelerated by warm conditions. To reduce sugaring and maximize shelf life, we recommend storing figs in an airtight container in your refrigerator. If sugaring does occur, it can be washed off in warm water prior to consumption.
