I was disappointed the first time I used the GeeFree Pastry. I now realize I was treating it as I was taught to handle pastry - 'do not handle pastry dough too much.' The second time I tried GeeFree pastry dough, I did as instructed - dusted it and the countertop, folded it and rerolled it, dusted again and folded and rerolled. I was worried it would be like cardboard when it came out of the oven. Not so - that was the handling secret. Go ahead and handle this pastry dough.
I had no idea there would be so much packaging. I'll never order that again. So much waste. I was horrified.
Has a good flavor but isn’t a puff pastry like a “normal” flaky puff pastry would be so a bit disappointing. That said, once I get my head wrapped around how to use the ones I bought I will get past it. Pot pies likely ok, tarts and galettes no. Wrap around sausage and hot dogs? Sure. Perfect for that. Appetizers? Sure.
This is the second time I have ordered this product. We all love it and use it just like we would use regular puff pastry. Some favorites are pot pie topping and apple turnovers.
Although these are not exactly like "regular" puff pastry sheets, they were still delicious. I used them to make chicken pot pies first. We all LOVED being able to have those. It had been so long. Second thing I made were turnovers. Mmmmmmm…...delicious. This worked perfectly for that. I just placed a second order. Next I think I will try puff pastry pizza.
