Make your own hues!
Purple: blue + beet red
Red: beet red + pinch of yellow
Orange: yellow + pinch of beet red
Cookie icing recipe: enough for 1 dozen cookies
3 cups powdered sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
4 tbsp milk (add more milk as desired)
1 color packet
Directions: Mix ingredients together until smooth
Take 1/4 cup mixed icing and place in small bowl; Add 1/2 - 1 packet of color
Blend until all the color has dissolved; Drizzle on cookies, or use icing bottle
Frosting Recipe: makes 1 cup
4 tbsp. unsalted butter (room temp)
2 cups powdered sugar
2 tbsp. milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 part glycerin to 1 part color
In small bowl, beat butter, sugar, milk, and vanilla until light and fluffy
Mix 1 part color (1/4 - 1 color packet) to equal part glycerin
Gently blend liquid color into frosting
Ice and frosting will last for several weeks refrigerated.
Coloring produces best results with icing and glazes. Baking at high temperatures may result in some color variation. Oil based recipes (such as frostings) require pre-mixing colors with glycerin.
